Whenua Pupuke garden opens at North Shore Hospital

Channel Magazine was on hand for the official opening, on Wednesday 16 December, of the the Whenua Pupuke garden, a lovely new park that sits between North Shore Hospital and Lake Pupuke. It is a fabulous addition to the lakeside walkway.

Whenua Pupuke has been a collaborative project between the Well Foundation, Waitemata DHB and generous suppliers and supporters from our community. The aim has been to create a place of healing, nurture and peace for staff, patients and visitors to the hospital. Whenua Pupuke features gardens, a wonderful sculpture by Julie Moselen, as well as walkways and seating.

The official opening included a blessing by kaumatua Fraser Toi and an address by Dr John Cullen who led the project. Contributors to the project included Sir David Levene, Brett Turner and Recreational Services, John Childs Consultants, Kerry Dines Limited, Todd Property Group, Hynds Pipe Systems, Heavy Trax Hire, Jasmax, Jeta’s Grove Charitable Trust, Atlas Concrete, Firth Concrete, HDG Construction, Pavecraft, Rapid Construction, ECC Limited, Smale Family, R&B Transport, and Auckland Civil.

Make sure you get along and have a look at this wonderful new lakeside park that can also be accessed from the bottom of Shea Terrace.
