Busy Session Starts for Events/Promotions

This month is the start of the busy summer session for events and promotions in Browns Bay. Get your calendar out now and mark down these dates for fun in your local community.

Blokes in the Plaza: First of all, thanks to those who braved the weather for our car show for local dad’s. We had over $1 million worth of cool cars on display – more were due but the weather affected some. Congratulations to local, Terry Holt, who won our Fathers Day prize of a $100 voucher to spend at Deep Creek Brewing. Also thanks to Graham from Browns Bay Collision Repairs for bringing his immaculate Corvette, Bing for his amazing Michael Schumacher Porsche 911 and local car dealers, Albany Toyota, North Harbour Ford, Simon Lucas Mitisbushi and Mercedes Benz North Shore for the great vehicles they displayed.

New Craft Market – Saturday 14th October & 11th November
Well, our September Market got off to a wet and bumpy start. Thanks to those who attended - both stall holders and the public, but mother nature got the better of the day and we had to shut it down early due to the wind. Never mind – we’re a resilient lot and Sarah and her team are back with our monthly craft market from 10a.m. to 2.00pm this month and we’ll have another $100 voucher for some lucky Browns Bay shopper. Pop down to the market and enter the draw on the day!

Heritage Week – Saturday 30th September to Sunday 8th October. Wow! This event was so popular last year that we are now going to have a full week of celebrations. We’ll have a lock up cabin supplied by local business Eco Sheds on site in the Plaza for the duration with a selection of old pictures of Browns Bay. Bring down your old pictures and talk to our local historians manning the cabin.
Come down to the Plaza from 11.30 on Saturday the 7th October and enter of ‘Best Dressed Heritage Clothing’ competition – winner gets a $200 New World voucher! Well worth getting dressed up for, don’t you think!

Christmas Tree Lights Event – Fri 3rd November: Another favourite with the kids. Our giant 7 metre Christmas tree gets installed this week and to celebrate we have our annual event where one lucky child gets to turn the lights on for this season. Entertainment starts at 5.00pm with Santa making an appearance. Lights turned on at 7.00pm sharp!

Christmas Parade – Saturday 2nd December at 5.00pm: Sally has again been busy all year working with Santa and his elves to bring you a bigger & better parade. Don’t miss out – come early and check out our Christmas Craft Market – open from 11.00am right through to 6.00pm

Business Feature: As a new feature, in each issue of your favourite local magazine, we will be acknowledging individual businesses that deserve attention and praise for their overall presentation and professional look. In these days of increased retail competition, it is essential to be up to speed with what is required to make a business successful.
The first nomination is for ‘Skin Boutique’, corner Clyde and Inverness Rds. The owner, Kristina, has done a great job in presenting her business and there are many areas that she has focused on!
The store has a modern, clean and relaxed look, combining pine and shabby sheik to give an eclectic atmosphere. Attention to detail includes excellent roofline signage and promotional window graphics- fresh looking flower pots frame the entrance and even a trendy urban dogs drink bowl!
But it doesn’t stop there. Helpful, friendly staff are ready to assist and happily great you, which is an absolute must these days with increased competition in retail. To survive in retail now doesn’t necessarily mean cheaper prices – now it’s ‘SHOPPERTAINMENT” and includes:

  • Great store presentation
  • Good window/instore display
  • Friendly, helpful staff

This segment has been brought to you by our resident retail store expert, Steve Brown. Having been in retail display and visual merchandising for over 40 years, Steve has a wealth of knowledge. He has his own local business (Display Arts) and can be contacted on 027-492-0491
