Takapuna Beach is about striving to be the best

An overview of what is happening in Takapuna Beach from Business Association General Manager Peter White.
Bienvenue à notre belle plage et à notre beau village “Welcome to our beautiful beach and village”.
We are very proud of Takapuna Beach and its town centre - and rightly so. It has to be amongst the most beautiful urban beaches in the world. Visitors to my office often remark upon how lucky we are to look from our places of work and see our marvelous beach and Hauraki Gulf and to have a tranquil oasis to retreat to within a five minute walk.
The French Rugby team certainly recognised this when they decided to base themselves here for the Rugby World Cup. They have now arrived and we welcome them, their supporters and all visitors to our beautiful beach and village.
I hope that you enjoy reading this edition of Channel and I look forward to seeing you inTakapuna Beach soon – Cheers, Pete.

Takapuna Beach is…
about striving to be the best
Allison Roe, Takapuna resident and former World record holder for the Marathon, recently addressed the TBBA AGM. Believing that she epitomized all that the TBBA is trying to do in Takapuna Beach, Chairman Dave Donaldson approached Allison to inspire members to strive to be the best. In an entertaining and inspirational speech, Allison spoke about the effort required, the rewards of succeeding and not to be discouraged by “knockers”. When invested into the Athletics Hall of Fame, it was acknowledged that Allison had won 76 International races. However Allison revealed to do so, she had had to start in over 500 races. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but with “IP - Inspiration and perspiration” Takapuna Beach can realise its enormous potential and be the best.
To conclude her speech Allison urged members to learn and use the following French phase, when welcoming the many French visitors expected in Takapuna during the Rugby World Cup - Bienvenue à notre belle plage et à notre beau village - Welcome to our beautiful beach and village.

Free Public Transport to all RWC matches played in Auckland
No need to worry about parking, traffic jams or getting wet - RWC ticket holders can park in Takapuna, enjoy a meal in one of our fine bars or restaurants then catch a free bus from Hurstmere Road (outside The Elephant Wrestler alongside the Wilson Carpark) to be dropped off at the gates of Eden Pk or North Harbour Stadium, enjoy the match and return to Takapuna to celebrate or commiserate the result. (For further details visit http://www.maxx.co.nz)
The Blankenberge Belgian Beer Café, Florrie McGreal’s Irish Pub and The Elephant Wrestler (ex Copper Room and Goode Brothers) have combined to create their very own Rugby Zone – an area on the footpath immediately outside these popular Takapuna bars providing a genuine rugby atmosphere for fans and supporters.
Inspired by previous successful St Patrick’s Day Celebrations concept, the heavily decorated Rugby Zone, will be in place for all of New Zealand’s pool matches plus the Australia v Ireland game, along with all the quarters-finals, semis and final.
A series of 50” televisions will be strategically placed on the outside of the licensed premises and to provide pre and post match entertainment a high-energy acoustic duo, “Pat For President” have been bought in directly from Wales specifically to play the Rugby Zone, giving it a true international flavour.

Free WiFi in Takapuna during the RWC
The TBBA is pleased to advise that along with the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board we have negotiated for free WiFi to be available in Takapuna during the Rugby World Cup. This should prove to be most popular, especially amongst our café patrons.
In addition we have arranged a variety of street entertainment during the duration of the tournament giving North Harbour students the opportunity to impress both locals and visitors when they busk throughout the town centre.

Rugby World Cup Licensed products
The Takapuna i-SITE Visitor Centre has shifted into its new premises and a number of retailers selling Official Rugby World Cup licensed products have set up a shop in the old site in Hurstmere Green. Selling predominately New Zealand made products, we believe that this will become a destination shop during the tournament.
