Introducing… Marvel Grill
Honest Food and Fine Wine make for a Special Experience at Takapuna’s new Marvel Grill.
Takapuna’s newest restaurant, Marvel Grill, is quickly becoming one of the most talked about and popular restaurants on the Shore, after opening to rave reviews just last month.
Located at 34 Anzac St, underneath the Berkeley Cinema, Marvel Grill specialises in fresh quality meat cuts paired with lovely side dishes and an authentic kiwi menu, which still manages to borrow from exotic themes and cuisines.
Diners at Marvel Grill are invited to choose their meat, their sides, sauces & butters. Proprietors Alisdair Gribben (of Vivace fame) and partner Wendy Sutherland have travelled the country to source only the best free-range meats.
Enhancing this concept further, an in-house butcher prepares all meat cuts, which are displayed in fridges for customers to choose the exact piece they want.
“It’s all up to you,” says Alisdair. “We wanted to keep things nice and fresh with no nonsense and that’s what we’re offering. It’s an honest menu with everything out in the open, allowing diners to pick and choose as they like.”
The marvel grill itself, for which the restaurant is named, dominates the dining room in a teppan yaki-esque fashion paying homage to that great kiwi classic – the barbeque, which diners can sit around to enjoy watching their meals being prepared.
One of the big draws is the smaller portions Marvel Grill offers, so as well as serving the traditional 220gm scotch fillets through to the 450gm T-bones, eye fillet steaks as small as 80gm and 120gm are on the menu, which are proving exceptionally popular with women.
Along with the grill offerings, a range of hot skillets brought steaming hot to your table are available, including pork ribs with tangy bbq sauce, prawns with garlic butter & sourdough toast, or a mixed grill of miso rubbed sirloin, chorizo, pork hunter & lamb cutlets with a red wine sauce and roasted onion.
All this and Marvel Grill offers surprisingly exceptional value for money, as well as an impressive wine list of reasonably priced wines which make the whole menu affordable.
Taken on their own, the restaurant’s individual concepts are not new, but the way they’ve been brought together at Marvel Grill is what makes it stand out as a dining experience.
