So please do check out our Facebook page.  To keep in contact with Hospice North Shore, click on “Like” and become a “Hospice Fan”.  Feel free to write about your experiences with Hospice on our page.

Become a Hospice North Shore Fan before 20th December 2011 and thanks to Vero Insurance, we have two $50 Hospice Gifts for Good packs to give away every week before Christmas, plus one very lucky fan will win a $500 Hospice Gifts for Good pack which will be drawn on 20th December – just in time for Christmas!

Nigel Latta teams up with Kenzie’s Gift

On the 22nd of November, Kenzie Eireann would have been celebrating her ninth birthday. But this year, Kenzie will not be opening presents on her birthday. Instead, a different kind of celebration is taking place.

Kenzie was 3 when she died of cancer, and the charity set up in her memory, Kenzie’s Gift, is celebrating the new addition to the Kenzie’s Gift team, their Ambassador, Nigel Latta.

“I am proud to be an Ambassador for Kenzie’s Gift,” says Nigel. “It is important to heighten awareness of the need to support our children and young people when a family member is diagnosed with cancer. Kenzie’s Gift provides age appropriate, evidenced-based services delivered by registered professionals at a time when such support is desperately needed by children and their families. Kenzie’s Gift is an invaluable community resource and they need our help to grow and extend their services.”

A diagnosis of cancer within the family is devastating. The impact is felt by every member but the effects of cancer may be experienced most profoundly by the children. The provision of age appropriate emotional support for children and young people affected by cancer can help to manage and minimise the trauma.

Kenzie’s Gift works with children and young people living with cancer. Whether it is their own diagnosis or that of a sibling or parent, these children have significant issues stemming from the fears and anxieties arising from a diagnosis of cancer within the family. Timely intervention can alleviate these fears, offering reassurance and hope for a positive future.

When asked if he would be an Ambassador for Kenzie’s Gift, Nigel Latta agreed without hesitation. He is passionate about the psychosocial well being of New Zealand children and recognises the contribution Kenzie’s Gift is making. Nigel works tirelessly with children and young people in his profession as a Clinical Psychologist and his books about parenting and raising children have been hugely popular.

Kenzie’s Gift is grateful for Nigel’s support. “Nigel is a champion for all New Zealand children who are affected by cancer,” says Nic Russell, Director of Kenzie’s Gift. “I cannot thank him enough for his support.”

To mark the occasion, Nigel is doing ‘The Politically Incorrect Guide to Raising Boys and Girls’ at Takapuna Grammar School on Thursday 1st December at 7pm.

As Nigel says ‘We’re constantly being bombarded with people telling us that boys are in crisis, or girls are, or both. We hear an awful lot about the lack of male role models on boys, and the impact of pop culture on girls. We also hear a lot about Mars and Venus and all the latest ‘brain science’ which at first glance seems to be saying that boys and girls are so radically different we apparently come from completely different planets. What’s really going on with our boys, and what’s really up with our girls?’

In this entertaining, thought provoking, and informative show Nigel will give you the answers to all this stuff as he takes the audience on a twisty turny ride through the business of getting boys and girls all the way through childhood, adolescence, and beyond, in a complicated world.
All proceeds from ticket sales go toward supporting Kenzie’s Gift and the wonderful work they are doing in our community.
