Students Celebrate Spring in their own fashion
Some of Carmel College’s Senior Materials Technology students made garments that were modelled at the Milford ‘Celebrating Spring Fashion Show’ in September.
Carmel girls modelling their own or fellow students’ creations were the only students walking the cat walk. The girls modeling was so professional and the garments such high quality that many audience members wanted to know which boutiques they could purchase the garments from. The girls pictured below from left are; Emma Hilton-Jones modelling Alexandra Bull’s dress, Nicole Brewer modelling Natasha Viray’s dress, Tifanie Ellis modelling her own creation, Holly Kennard modelling Bianca Jones’ garment, Tracey Hercock modelling Laura Mallon’s dress, Niamh Gibson modelling Annaliese Mackenzie’s dress, Channa-Mae Frankson modelling Ellie Going’s dress, and Mwangileni Kampanga, Addie Mizero and Meryn Rich all modelling their own creations.
ASB COMMUNITY BURSARY AWARD WINNERS
Congratulations to Year 13 students Emma Wilson and Zoe Pipes who this week received ASB Community Bursary Awards acknowledging their outstanding community involvement.
Emma has been a volunteer lifeguard at Muriwai Beach for 5 years where she patrols each summer and helps coach junior nippers, assists at their training camps and manages teams on their competition days. Zoe has been a volunteer at Sea Cadets for over 5 years and is currently involved with the Devonport RSA. Zoe has been involved in weekly parades nights and teaches sailing through the summer months. In the last 3 years Zoe has taught basic cadet knowledge to younger cadets and she also represented Auckland Youth Districts RSA last year in Sydney at their ANZAC commemorations.
COMPASSION IN ACTION AT CARMEL
Throughout 2011 the Carmel College Community, encouraged by the student Young Vinnies Group, has donated large amounts of used clothing for Te Waipuna Puawai. Carmel has a strong, supportive relationship with Te Waipuna Puawai who are a thriving community development initiative of the Sisters of Mercy New Zealand, committed to working with and alongside women and children living on the margins of our society.
This students led initiative has been a clear indication of the school living up to our Core Mercy value for the year – Compassion. Sister Marie and Adelaide from Te Waipuna Puawai were overwhelmed when they came to Carmel recently with the amount of clothes that had been donated by the students and their families.
