Lake House Arts Centre celebrates Heritage Day in style

Look out for the flags on Sunday 6 November as Lake House Arts Centre celebrates its annual open day. Historic Lake House will be open to the public from 11am to 3pm with artists open studios, art and craft stalls, arts activities for the kids, live music by the North Shore Brass Band, the infamous Morris Dance Troupe and the toe-tapping jazz band the Lex Pistols. Watch sculpture in action as Joanne Sullivan-Gessler teachers a group of students the art of sculpting in a new medium called Darjit.

Families are encouraged to bring along a picnic, or choose from the variety of foods on offer from the Café or just grab a handy ol’ NZ sausage. Fiona Downes, a Lake House Trustee who has been involved with the Lake House from the very beginning will be conducting a series of interesting historical talks throughout the day. View the incredible transformation from old Kauri Villa and Army Barracks to its present state. Have-a-go at face painting yourself and your friends while experimenting with the variety of products upstairs in the Body Art studio. The Permanent Harcourt’s Heritage Homes Photographic Exhibition is well worth a visit, this walk through history will take you back in time to the old homes, revealing the interesting history of the Takapuna and Milford area. This is our annual free event and a great way to spend a Sunday.
