In the Channel
Unashamedly Positive!
Welcome to another bumper issue of Channel Magazine. Over 150 pages once again!
Channel is unashamedly all about highlighting the fantastic things going on in our community and there are plenty of them – as you will see in this issue.
We are thrilled to present a spread on the legacy left by Jim and Geoff Smale. The superb Smales Farm development is a jewel in our North Shore crown and these two pioneers led the way. I trust you will enjoy reading the spread about these two Shore stalwarts on pages 10 and 11.
Another exciting development is the McKenzies Project, by Wiltshire Property Group, in the heart of Takapuna. This high quality precinct will provide fashion and lifestyle shopping combined with contemporary indoor and outdoor dining. There are many dedicated to ensuring that Takapuna meets its potential in the years ahead and developments of this quality will play a big part. We provide an insight into McKenzies on pages 36 and 37.
The Draft Auckland Plan is on the minds of many at the moment as submissions close. In this issue we highlight a submission that’s being put together by a group led by Takapuna resident Peter Menzies. This group is concerned that the area they call the “North East” (including the North Shore) is being overlooked in the whole scheme of things. Peter, a business leader and huge supporter of the community, has put an excellent submission together that we highlight on pages 24 and 25. The full submission is available on the Channel Magazine website.
As a trustee of the North Harbour Club I am thrilled to highlight this years AIMES Awards – rewarding excellence of young people in our region (see pages 44 to 47). The achievements of these young people astounds me every year and 2011 is no different. Congratulations to all the winners. This year a further $110,000 has been presented to the seven AIMES Awards and six Emerging Talent Awards recipients. Funds that will help them realise their lofty goals.
Enjoy reading your November Channel. Life is pretty good now that we have the Webb Ellis Trophy locked away for the next four years!
